Robotech stories - Agentic AI: The next generation

The artificial intelligence (AI) story continues to develop apace, already showing its potential as a disruptive, multi-sector driving force behind diverse investment opportunities. Markets are still in the relatively early stages of making the most of the potential afforded by advances such as generative AI, as uptake and acceptance grows in line with technological improvements. Investors and consumers alike are therefore rapidly becoming familiar with this revolutionary subset of AI, with its ability to use existing data to create new outputs and content within a defined set of parameters. However, we are far from the apex of AI’s continued, transformative journey – as illustrated by the emergence of agentic AI.

Agentic AI takes the power of generative AI a step further with its ability to operate independently, learn, and make decisions – without the need for continuous manual instruction or intervention. While agentic AI, like generative AI, benefits from vast amounts of data and sophisticated large language models (LLMs), its greater autonomy provides it with increased abilities to rapidly collect data, act, analyse, and learn how improve its own performance, which is opening exciting new real-life opportunities.

Leading customer relationship management (CRM) provider Salesforce seeks to harness the power of agentic AI with its new Agentforce technology. Agentforce offers customer-facing corporations a potentially limitless opportunity to augment existing client service operations with a digital workforce; its network of digital agents can be used to respond to customer enquiries and help facilitate the sales process.

We are all likely familiar with the oft frustrating, limited and circular experience offered by early chatbots – however, agentic AI has the ability go beyond the limited potential of early automated customer service tools, thanks to its proactive, adaptive and executive capabilities.

Marc Benioff, the CEO of Salesforce, recently reported that within a 90-day period, Agentforce managed a total of 380,000 conversations with an 84% resolution rate.1

Agentic AI integration is also underway at Meta Platforms, best known as the social media giant behind Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. Meta describes agentic AI as a breakthrough ‘…poised to revolutionise industries, from automating business processes to optimising customer interactions and strengthening cybersecurity’. 2

These companies present just part of the global opportunity available to investors in robotech, and to those seeking to capture a suitably diverse exposure to the long-term growth potential associated with disruptive technology megatrends.
